Speaking of Hard Times...

As you know, I have become an initial fan of Dave Ramsey. He lays out “baby steps” for becoming financially free. I may not agree with his advice beyond the giving and getting out of debt sections…..but I like his advice so far!

That being said, I want to bring up some things that I have run across lately that might help you and your family:

Nationwide Town Hall Meetings-
April 23rd at 8 PM (7PM for my West Coast friends)

(It’s free! They are all over the country. We’re going…..if you want to go with us, let us know!)

e-mealz- Caleb surprised me with a subscription to e-mealz. It’s only $5 per month (use DAVE as the promo code and it’s only $12.50 for 3 months!) and you get:

e-mealz meal plans that
...are written and created by REAL moms with REAL families
...are balanced and family friendly
...are as easy as possible, but delicious and kid tested!
...consist of favorite recipes collected from hundreds of moms
...come with an organized, aisle by aisle grocery list
...are for 4 to 6 people (or 2 to 3)
...are based on the current week sales at your grocery
...are priced at approximately $75 per week
...Two person plans average $35 total per week

Angel Food Ministries- Anyone can buy these!! HOLLA!

"Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.

Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.

Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher system.

It's both a Bargain and a Blessing!

There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications.

Everyone is encouraged to participate. Some churches even encourage participants to apply the money they saved to help someone else in need."

LOVE the ideas! Have not tried these yet…..I will let you know how it goes!

I volunteer to distribute Angel Food in my community. Angel Food is a big help to a lot of people. For $30 you get a box of food worth about $60, and the menu varies each month. It’s not just for lower-income families – anyone and everyone qualifies to participate. It’s really a great system. Local Angel Food host sites are listed at http://www.angelfoodministries.com/hosts.asp.

Thanks for the good advice. I think Joe and I are going to the Town Hall meeting. Our church is offering it as well and I think we all could use a reality check on spending and how the economy has really affected us long term.
